I have a confession to make. Before I accidentally discovered dōTERRA (thanks mum!), I had no experience whatsoever of essential oils. In fact, I had never really considered the benefits of using natural methods over the modern approach in order to support myself and my family (confession #2!). Cue a ‘WOW’ moment using essential oils on Miss 3 and I was hooked.

As mums, all we want is to protect our family from getting sick. When I found out I was pregnant again in March 2017, I was relieved to have my knowledge of essential oils and looked forward to supporting my newborn baby. I wondered how life with a newborn would be different with this knowledge and first line of defence?

During my pregnancy, I continued to use my dōTERRA oils to support myself and my family. I researched blends and invested in the book, ‘The Essential Midwife’ by Stephanie Fritz. I was all set! I confidently used my pure essential oils and natural supplements throughout my pregnancy and continue to do so with hubby, Miss 3, Master 0 and dog Rocky.

So, here are just 5 ways (I could easily list 50!) I have used essential oils with my wee man…

1. Balance

I used dōTERRA’s Grounding Blend right after birth. I applied one drop diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) to the soles of his feet to help ground him and get him used to his new surroundings, and I added it to my diffuser at night. This blend was also extremely helpful to me during labour!

2. OnGuard

1 drop of dōTERRA’s OnGuard protective blend in a 10ml roller topped with FCO, rolled down the soles of his feet. This helps support the wee man’s immune system- especially with all those visitors!

3. Digestzen

I call this one the ‘Tummy Tamer’ as it is a must-have for digestive support and issues such as wind or constipation. I use 1 drop of dōTERRA’s Digestzen blend in a 10ml roller topped with FCO and rub it across the wee man’s tummy.

4. Sleepy Time

Sleep? What’s that again? We all know how tough those early days are with a newborn. In the wee man’s Sleepy Time roller, I use 1 drop of Lavender and 1 drop of Frankincense. This calms and settles him, ready for sleep. I also applied Frankincense to his crown after birth which aids cellular support and helps with bonding (well, they didn’t give it to baby Jesus for nothing right?!). Alternatively, you could use Lavender and Roman Chamomile which is very gentle on newborns.

5. Myrrh

I applied this diluted to the wee man’s belly button to seal and support the cells.

I use dōTERRA essential oils because they contain 100% pure essential oils and zero synthetics. Each bottle goes through strict third-party testing to ensure this high quality. They are completely safe for all ages, as long as you follow dilution rates for newborns and babies. I honestly couldn’t envisage a day where I wouldn’t use my oils and products.
